Spring has come in like a lamb in Metro Detroit, so heading out to an Easter-themed outdoor event might be just the thing to welcome the new season and dress up the family, meet friends and celebrate warmer weather at the Zoo, local nature centers and other venues.
Easter is usually a time when kids are off of school for a week-long break as well, making these events fun and necessary. Everyone can get outside, explore a new park, check out the flora and fauna as well as stretch their legs with a hike or walk. Many of these events are aimed at kids of all ages, including fun-loving adults, so there is plenty to do and see around Metro Detroit during Easter as a result.
Check ahead to see what the social-distancing rules are, whether you need to bring masks for certain ages or if there are other health-related actions you should take before arriving. Many of these events also are ticketed, so make sure there is still space for you to attend and that they have tickets available if you plan on walking up to see what’s going on.
The weather also may be an issue. Spring in Metro Detroit is lovely with warming temperatures and sunny days. But that can change quickly with high winds, long rains and cloudy days being just as common in spring. Bring an umbrella as well as a rain jacket if you have room in the car to pack these items or extra space in the diaper bag.

Here are five Easter-themed events taking place around Easter for family and friends to enjoy in the Great Outdoors.
Bunnyville at the Detroit Zoo is one of Metro Detroit’s favorite Easter events and this year it’s back for an extended stay. The holiday event is free with admission and offers guests a chance to admire colorful chalk drawings, have fun with mascots and photo opportunities and get a goodie bag to go. Since current zoo capacity is limited to no more than 2,400 guests, Bunnyville has been extended from two days to six days to give families an opportunity to enjoy the fun. In addition to the festivities, you can explore the zoo to visit the animals. Purchase your Zoo tickets in advance online. Admission is $14-$19 for adults and $10-$15 for children 2 to 18. Parking is $8. You can also get an annual family membership for $109.
Detroit’s North Rosedale Park Community Center is host to the Easter Bunny’s drive-through event. You can drive through the center’s circular driveway with everyone in the vehicle, wave to the Easter Bunny and receive a bag of candy on this Saturday, April 3 event.
This annual Easter Egg Hunt will have more than 10,000 eggs hidden for kids to find and collect. The event, which takes place Saturday, April 3, has three age groups to make the event fun and safe. This year, 15 “magical eggs” will be hidden in each of the three age groups, and if you find one, you can turn it in for a special prize. The Easter Bunny also will arrive at 9:15 a.m. and the hunt will start soon after. Bring your own bag or basket.
This Egg-Stravaganza will be a fun afternoon for all ages. The Saturday, April 3, event at Canterbury Village in Lake Orion will feature crafts, lawn games, and photos with the bunny. Then, at 2:45 pm, there will be a big egg drop. For every egg you find, you can head into the shops, trade them in and get candy and prizes.
Head to Taylor for its annual Bunny Trail on Sunday, April 4. This year, kids can fill their Easter baskets with treats handed out by special spring characters. You also can get your photo taken with the Easter Bunny for a great memory of the day. The event also includes treats for all to enjoy on site.
Get a great walk in as well as enjoy the Easter Egg Scramble along the trails. This Saturday, April 3, event has a timed entry so every family who attends can enjoy their time with Rosco the Clown and a trip down the Bunny Trail. There, you will find candy-filled eggs and a visit with the Easter Bunny at the end. The walk is about a quarter-mile in length and is on mostly paved or gravel paths.
